Flash Assignment
Flash Assignment from emma hardy on Vimeo.
This is the first draft of my flash animation for my second round robin assignment.. I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out, but wish we could have more time to really get the movement perfect.

Anticipation
Short cycle done in flash to show anticipation before an action. Something in the video is going a bit weird with the frames sticking, not sure why :/

Head Turn
For our principles of animation module i'm looking into "Arcs". I decided to demonstrate a simple head turn, but thought i'd have a go at it in flash (a program i haven't used for animating yet) and this was the result:
Considering I had no graphics tablet i'm pretty pleased with the result. The movement is a bit more jerky than i'd like it to be, but i'll go back and add more frames when i have access to a tablet.

Round Robin - After Effects
Had my first go using Adobe After Effects today, our brief was so produce 15 seconds (although i've only done 10) of animation with balls of different weight bouncing.

Open Brief
Open brief project from last module "Introduction to Animated Forms". The sequence had to be 10 seconds long, in a medium that you have previous experience in.

Robot Time
These are some of my character designs/general preparation drawings i've done for a 20 second animation i'm currently working on. I was originally going to use it for my open brief project in the previous module, but haven't been able to finish it in time, so have decided to create it just for practice.
The storyline is that a Robot basically extends his arm to tap a girl holding an ice cream on the shoulder, she turns and then he steals the ice cream, then she shoots him.. I'm about half way through animating the sequence.
Sorry for the poor image qualities, the work is in a fairly small sketchbook.

MudBox
I've been having a bit of a play around in Autodesk's 'MudBox' program. It gives you a basic model of a head to manipulate, so heres my first basic manipulation:

Then I worked out how to add textures and colour, so had a go at things like hair and skin:

I couldn't get the mouth right, but i'm pretty pleased with the rest of it :)Also had a play with the lizard model:

The Snail
Some character designs for a short 2-5 minute film that i'm hoping to make some time after christmas..
Wales!
Last week I went on a trip to Wales with my animation group, it was amazing. We spent the days drawing the landscapes around us, and when it rained drew the people sitting and drinking coffee in cafe's. Here's some of the work I produced.

Things I've Been Watching
Thought i'd do a post on the films that have really grabbed me recently;
I saw Black Dog's progress a while back during my photography A-level, but thought i'd still put it up as it's one of my favourite animations.

This second one is called "Feet of Song" by Erica Russel, our lecturer Mary Murphy played it in a seminar last week. I really love the colours and movement in this one.
I came across this one in the winners of last years Flip Festival that happens in Wolverhampton every year. Play of Silence by Virginia Mori won "Best Experimental Film 2009"
Chuck Jones
This week i've got to look at Chuck Jones and his work, so I thought i'd start off by doing some drawings of his characters, to try and get a feel for his style. I really enjoyed doing this as I haven't done much cartoon drawing before, hopefully i'll be able to make my character designs a bit better now :)

Character Designs
Below are some character designs that i was playing about with in the holidays before I arrived at UWE. I created them by drawing the basic outlines in pen onto paper, and then scanning them into photoshop for the shading and colours.
Maya Project 1
Practice run for this weeks project. The brief is to create a 10 second video with two geometric characters that move differently, and needs to have the camera moving at some point :) This was my first ever go at using Maya so i'm pretty proud of it!

A Bear's Sanctuary
Short animation done in roughly 12 hours for a photography exam - the last seen was majorly rushed hence the dodgy animation, but I was still pretty proud of the overall outcome!
Bits and Bobs
Thought i'd post some previous things from my A-levels to get some of my background work in before posting what i've been doing so far on my degree course.
This is some Alice in Wonderland inspired stuff that I did around this time last year.
Running along the same style theme

Welcome
This is my UWE animation blog that i'll be keeping throughout my course (and probably onwards) as a way of tracking my progress and letting people know what i'm looking at as well as creating! I'm really excited about my course, and think it's going to lead to great things.
